Nick and I walked into Shalom Healing in Milwaukee to meet our Midwife, Ali Phipps, for the first time, and to find out how far along I might be. After only speaking for a few minutes, we knew Ali was the one for us.
She led us to her room and asked me to lay on the bed by the window. She applied some sweet-smelling lotion to my tiny baby bump and placed the cold doppler to it, and then the room was filled with the sweetest sound I’ve ever heard.
I couldn’t help but cry at hearing that fast little beat of her heart. This was really happening! I was going to have a baby–I was a mother!
We named her Isla Katherine Rome, and at 9am on February 10th of 2014, we welcomed her earth-side. And now we’re feeling like two years went too fast. If I could’ve somehow known her before naming her, I’d’ve named her Isla Relentless Rome (half-serious).
On Sunday, we had a full-house party to celebrate her 2nd birthday. She’s really getting into Frozen, loves to color, and dress up. She was definitely spoiled and we feel so loved by everyone that came to celebrate our little peach with us.
She’s wild, hot-tempered, hilarious, mischievous, and sweet; and sometimes I still can’t believe that this is my life. That I’m the lucky one that gets to be her mother.
We love you, miss Isla Katherine Rome. We’re so excited to see what kind of mark you’re gonna leave on this planet.
