Hello, everyone! And in the loud voice of a mama that had too much coffee this morning, Happy Wednesday!
I hope you’re all doing awesome–you’ve reached the halfway point of your week, and in just a few short days, you’ll be sipping a cold lemonade on your patio for Memorial Day. (What do you mean it’s supposed to thunderstorm all weekend? :[)
Anyways, I have a little time to myself (it’s 7am as I write this). All my babies are still tucked into their beds, dreaming away, and I can enjoy my coffee without forgetting it in the microwave for the rest of the day.
I love having the morning to myself. I’m not being pulled into 22 different directions, I’m sans Esme, who’s only desire is to stand on my lap, facing me, grinning from ear to ear, wanting complete eye contact; or a toddler that wants to take me for a few laps around the house via pulling me by my finger with a death-grip.
Okay, anyways, I wanted to share something with you guys that’s been bothering me (don’t worry–it’s not you, it’s me).
I’ve noticed that all my life, I’ve struggled with crossing the line between Inspiration and Imitation.
I couldn’t resist–if I saw someone doing something I like, I couldn’t just be inspired by it or appreciate it–I wanted to do it myself. I don’t know where my lack of identity began, or what caused it, but now I’m discovering the line between learning something new and trying to become someone you’re not. I was doing the latter.
Today, I’m making a promise to myself to stay original. To appreciate someone’s art without imitating. To not eat my heart out over another person’s success. To celebrate others without questioning what I’m doing.
I promise to be myself, and not anyone else.
If you’re feeling the same way, promise me that you’re gonna make this promise too. There’s not another YOU on this earth, so don’t be someone else. What you have to offer is awesome and unique. You be you, and I’ll be me (James Bay knows what’s up!<3)
Don’t forget to celebrate this weekend (whether the sky cries or not), and I’ll see ya next time! My next post is going to be the Peterson Wedding :)
