Guys! It’s been four years since Nick and I tied the knot.
Four. Years. How crazy! It totally flew by.
Even crazier? I almost forgot! I mean, I would have, if it wasn’t for Nick.
“Wait–is tomorrow our anniversary?” a confused Nick asks as Isla and Esme are going wild on the bed.
I paused. Was it?? Did we get married on the 8th or the 9th? It was 9/8/12. It IS tomorrow!
“Oh my gosh–IT IS! Let’s order Domino’s.”
“Nah, I want Buffalo Wild Wings.”
(Nothing says romance quite like delicious takeout from chain restaurants in the Rome Home.)
And my heart sighs <3 It’s been four years, but it feels like so much more.
Everyone tells you marriage is hard. And they’re right.
It’s hard because we’re selfish, sinful people. Putting someone else before yourself, above all others, and choosing to love them at their least lovely, is a hard brush against the grain.
Marriage is fun, precious, and priceless; but it’s not free. It comes with sacrifice. With work. It’s come with tears from late-night fights, and heartache, and more times of wanting to throw in the towel than I’d like to admit…but it comes with belly-laughs from Disney movies with the girls (recently, the part with the DMV sloths from Zootopia), the smile from morning forehead kisses before work, and the total security of faithfulness to each other that we are settled so deeply in.
Time passed. And two baby girls, fixer-upper, and launching two businesses later, we’re guilty of being swept into ‘busy’. We’re guilty of not appreciating each other. And we’re guilty of forgetting to appreciate the life we’ve been creating.
I’m lucky to be married to this hunky man. It tugs my soul when I say that he is the love of my life. (I’m not sobbing right now) (maybe a little) (let’s move on).
Nick’s an incredible & supportive father to our sweet girls. He’s my best friend, my nerd, and a savvy business man (I’m gonna start calling him the Hustler). He’s also a Menards Rebate Guru, a Monopoly champ, a financial wiz who likes making spreadsheets, and record holder for the world’s longest and thickest eyelashes. ;) <3
He pushes you to be a better you. He is forgiving, a perfectionist, technically inclined, and a systematic thinker. And he loves jazz music..? (insert concerned expression emoji here).
I love this man. He’s so perfect for me. Thanks for being my husband–I know it’s been a loopy roller coaster (sickening at times, but still mega fun ;]). Thanks for loving me through it all. <3 You’re the best. Here’s to many, many more years together.
